Hens and Chicks

cactus40

Which came first the Hens or the Chicks?  I am a big fan of the hens and chicks,  they are hardy to almost any zones.  They make great house plants too.   Now that I saw a really nice variety that comes in a burgundy color called King Charles,  Raingardener from Gardening by Trial and Error had made a post on some of the plants she had purchased,  I just loved that color and now I am on a mission to find one.   They do well in direct sun or afternoon shade and is drought tolerant,  the Hen (the largest plantlet) usually dies off but the chicks will live on and eventually becomes the Hen.  It’s a good idea to mix some sand into the soil where you want to plant it for better drainage.
